JOB OVERVIEW:

Position is responsible for switching and occasionally directing live, taped, remote or studio broadcast productions as well as performing duties of technical leader.


MINIMUM POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct and switch shows and live cut-ins
  • Program and execute complex switcher functions and DVE moves
  • Build and execute several different show elements such as opens, rejoins, and interstitials
  • Technical leader in the Altitude studio in charge of adjusting lights, changing bulbs, and troubleshooting other technical issues with the help of the engineering department
  • Report discrepancies, errors and issues to engineering and management staff
  • Fax out production systems prior to each production

OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES:

  • As technical leader, you may be asked to manage various technical projects and report back to the studio manager.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skill and Ability:

  • Proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet software programs; Word and Excel preferred.
  • Ability to organize and work in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate successfully with people at many levels within the company as well as with vendors, clients, etc.
  • Must be able to work day and night shifts.

Education or Formal Training:

  • High School diploma required; college degree preferred.

Experience:

  • At least five years of production experience as a Technical Director required or equivalent combination of education and experience

Material and Equipment Used:

  • Must be familiar with the operational use of production equipment including but not limited to video switcher, router, Chyron, audio mixers intercom, cameras, and other studio equipment as needed
  • General office equipment including copier, fax, phone, computer/keyboard, etc.

Working Environment/Physical Activities:

  • Stand up to 1/3 of time
  • Sit and/or walk up to 2/3 of time

MINIMUM POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Functional knowledge and experience in broadcast production and network operational workflows.
  • Operational knowledge of broadcast production equipment and technologies related to network channel origination including but not limited to: production switchers and routers, VTRs, sever based ingest/recording/playout devices and related software applications, channel automation software, frame synchronizers, CC encoders, intercoms etc…
  • A solid understanding of broadcast production techniques related to audio, video signal and related meta-data measurement, routing and manipulation.
  • Support network channel origination by facilitating the reception and processing of content and signals from satellite, fiber, www, FTP, tape, hard-drive and other sources.
  • Process network channel content via signal test & measurement for accuracy and adherence to technical specification, signal routing and file reception and delivery, multiple source primary and backup recording, and ensuring presence and or processing of accurate closed captions and metadata assignments.
  • Responsible for adherence to programming protocols and reporting of ingest and shift activities, errors and discrepancies.
  • Experience in problem solving and troubleshooting techniques related to channel ingest systems and procedures in order to rapidly and efficiently predict, avoid and correct problems.
  • Effective communication skills with all departments, staff and clients in order to communicate potential, real and or related issues, concerns or problems with content processing, reception and delivery.
  • Strong personal organization, prioritization, time management and planning skills are required.

MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One to two years of previous ingest, master control or related experience
  • High school diploma required; college degree preferred.
  • Familiarity with content delivery methods and systems including FTP, DG, Aspera, Extreme Reach, Vantage, Fiber and Satellite

  • Research account issues, perform collection calls and follow-up with customers, and coordinate with applicable sales representatives.
  • Maintain ledgers, credit balances, and resolve account discrepancies.
  • Process journal entries for revenue and cash receipts for all companies.
  • Create and distribute invoices.
  • Prepare/gather all necessary information for new customers, including reference checks, setting up new customer files, and maintaining new customer logs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITLES:

  • Rapidly assess, troubleshoot and work to correct technical problems and/or employ viable and timely work-arounds to facilitate operational objectives
  • Directly assist and support studio operations, productions, post-productions, feed and master control
  • Interface and work directly with vendors to coordinate technical processes necessary to facilitate televised events and ongoing channel origination
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and replace defective equipment.
  • Resolve issues through analysis and troubleshooting, fabricating, cabling, and wiring new installs with proper labeling and documentation.
  • Daily completion of shift check routines that monitor status and health of facility equipment.
  • Maintain broadcast equipment and systems
  • Maintains advanced knowledge of video and audio processing and encoding technologies.
  • Develops and updates Standard Operating Procedures, Change Configuration Requests, System Diagrams, and other technical documentation for all compression systems and functions.

ALTITUDE SPORTS & ENTERTAINMENT INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Welcome to Altitude Sports & Entertainment. We are the regional broadcast network home of the Colorado Avalanche, Denver Nuggets, Colorado Mammoth, Colorado Rapids, collegiate games, high-school events, as well as entertainment and community programming. We strive to provide internships that are rewarding both academically and professionally.

Our internships are offered in a variety of areas throughout our organization, including Production, Operations, Advertising Sales, Affiliate Sales and Broadcast Services. Depending on the nature of the position, the internships vary in length and time of year.

Television Operations covers a wide range of various technical aspects that are invaluable to the execution of all televised events. Interns in this role will learn a lot of the overall operations of the behind-the-scenes part of live television, giving them a wide array of knowledge about the business.

All of our internships are paid. However, you can still receive academic credit for the experience as well.


SPRING 2017 ALTITUDE SPORTS & ENTERTAINMENT INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Production: (Altitude Network Operations Center, Centennial)

  • Roughly 15-20 hours a week, including nights and weekends, some hours at Pepsi Center and/or Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, many at the Network Operations Center.
  • Training on various broadcast level equipment in technical center and in the field.
  • Logging and attaching metadata information for Nuggets, Avalanche, Rapids and Mammoth game highlights
  • Learning studio production, its structure and then operation of teleprompter, camera, lighting and some graphics.
  • Learning remote production and working with the Remote Production Coordinator while at the Pepsi Center or Dick’s Sporting Goods Park during game event nights.
  • General duties as assigned.

Production Intern Qualifications:

  • Paid, able to receive school credit.
  • Must be available 20-25 hours/week, including nights and weekends.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Prefer Television Production, Broadcast, Technical Communications, or similar major.
  • Interest in the behind the scenes aspects of television.
  • Strong interest assisting Remote Production Coordinator on location or Studio Manager during productions.
